Generating subsidiary income through poultry birds

Subsidiary occupations like rearing poultry birds present a wonderful opportunity for enhancing the farmer’s income. Keeping this in mind, BCT in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Skill Development corporation conducted a month-long course on poultry rearing at Jaggannapeta village, Atchutapuram mandal, Visakhapatnam.
Held for the small poultry farmer, the training program started on November 16, 2018 with many farmers participating. The objective of the program was to enable farmers towards poultry rearing by establishing small poultry units, or even in their house backyard.

The month-long program will take participants from the basics to the best practices of poultry farming. It will feature construction of poultry sheds and maintenance, preparation before the arrival of chicks, management of chicks, vaccination, disease prevention and control, documentation and maintenance of health and safety of birds and workers.

The inaugural meeting of the program was held on November 16, 2018. Sri B. Sri Ram Murty, Secretary, BCT, Sri N. Somayajulu, Central Coordinator, and B. Veerraju, Training Faculty, Sri K. Srinivasa Rao, Associate Coordinator, Sri P.A. Naidu, Community Organizer, took part along with the trainees.

Speaking on the occasion Sri Ram Murty expressed the need of taking up subsidiary occupations in agriculture for deriving consistent income. He expressed that Poultry farming is one of the successful entrepreneurship models, not only for enhancing family income but also for meeting the much needed nutritional requirements of the family.

Dr. Veerraju presented a brief picture on contents and deliverables of the training, as he illustrated how one can derive more income through rearing poultry birds. Sri Somayajulu emphasized the need to follow new practices for achieving success, and explained about the successful entrepreneurs in this domain.
