The JNTU Kakinada Engineering College batch of 1979-83 conducted a reunion in a unique manner. The group of 50 alumni along with their spouses came together at Sunray resorts from 28th to 30th December. While they spent quality time with their batchmates and relived old memories, they also made good use of this time to talk about social causes and discussed the roles that they could play.

A familiar scene greets people of Nagulapalli village in Munagapaka mandal of Visakhapatnam district every Saturday. About a 100, neatly dressed children gather together in the evening to celebrate the Sri Venkateswara Swamy pallaki procession in all the streets of the village. With most of the villagers coming together to participate, the event goes beyond a simple religious occasion as it gets linked with spirituality, social and cultural involvement as well.

Community in Action at Mulajampa village

Working towards community participation and decision making for village development, the Community Action Groups (CAGs) across 137 villages have been actively involved for the past three years now, since the start of the initiative by BCT. These groups meet regularly to discuss problems and solutions. The 13 CAG members of Mulajampa village met on December 6 as part of their monthly meetings and discussed the various problems and solutions.

Located about 36kms from mandal headquarters, Rallagadda village is 15kms away from Chintapalli. With kutcha and uneven roads, the path that leads here has huge stones, and can only be accessed by jeeps. Located atop a hill, the village perhaps earns its name from the many rocks and boulders here. While amenities like mobile connectivity are absent here, there is plenty of enthusiasm amongst the trainees.

Generating subsidiary income through poultry birds

Subsidiary occupations like rearing poultry birds present a wonderful opportunity for enhancing the farmer’s income. Keeping this in mind, BCT in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Skill Development corporation conducted a month-long course on poultry rearing at Jaggannapeta village, Atchutapuram mandal, Visakhapatnam.
Held for the small poultry farmer, the training program started on November 16, 2018 with many farmers participating. The objective of the program was to enable farmers towards poultry rearing by establishing small poultry units, or even in their house backyard.
